Bobby Brown: 22 DAYS Sober!

Bobby Brown is out of rehab and doing well, according to Bobby Brown.

The star is adamant that he did not leave rehab early, as has been widely reported, after checking into a facility last month to battle problems with alcohol.

Brown did depart the facility after only two weeks, but he claims was part of the plan all along … a somewhat dubious story, but we digress and hope it’s true.

The New Edition singer says he’s now 22 days sober … and counting!

Wow, 22 whole days. That’s more than three weeks (by one day)! Hey, those 22 days are totally the hardest, right? Here’s hoping Bobby can build on them.

Meanwhile, his new wife Alicia Etheredge was hospitalized over the weekend, reportedly having suffered a seizure, but the couple says that all is fine now.

Before Eastwooding: A Brief History of Fights With Chairs (Video)

Oscar-winning director Clint Eastwood may be America’s most celebrated chair fighter, but his speech at the Republican National Convention followed a trail blazed by past chair-fighting greats.

Eastwood, speaking to an empty seat that he said held President Obama, staged a lively one-way debate with the imaginary president Thursday. Eastwood’s alternately deadpan and meandering performance won over many in the convention hall, but drew widespread mockery outside it — and spawned the Twitter hashtag “Eastwooding.”

Eastwood’s friend, Tom Brokaw, said the man of famously few words had, this time, “had too many words.” Ann Romney, trying to turn attention back to her husband’s campaign, told “CBS This Morning”: “We appreciated Clint’s support and he’s a unique guy and he did a unique thing last night.”

But not that unique. Here’s a look at the chair fighters who set the stage for Eastwood’s Great Chair Debate. (All of the chairs involved declined to comment.)

Lawrence O’Donnell

The national chair-fighting craze seems to have started in March with MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell. When the attorney for Trayvon Martin’s shooter bailed on an interview, O’Donnell found the best replacement he could, on short notice. Instead of speaking to Craig Sonner, he talked to the seat where Sonner would have sat.

Among his questions: Who is paying you? Did you represent George Zimmerman when he was accused of domestic violence? Do you have medical records to back up Zimmerman’s claim that Zimmerman fired in self-defense?

The chair’s silence was deafening.

Jon Stewart

The “Daily Show” satirist was somehow not impressed with O’Donnell’s chair-grilling, telling viewers, “You know, I live in New York City. I see a lot of people yelling at chairs. None of them have TV shows.”

But Stewart was clearly threatened enough by O’Donnell’s skills to try to one-up him — by fighting with a floor fan. Floor fans are widely known to be more skilled debaters than chairs.

Stewart’s approach showed the problem with attempting satire in our ridiculous age: It’s very hard to stay ahead of constantly evolving absurdity. Stewart couldn’t have imagined that within months, Eastwood would heighten the chair-fighting gimmick even further.

Piers Morgan

When Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin bailed on an interview earlier this month, the CNN host took a prim approach to chair fighting.

Morgan had hoped to question Akin about his unusual beliefs about rape and pregnancy. Unfortunately, with Akin unavailable, Morgan could only present viewers with his plush proxy.

He complimented his guest, calling it “a very nice empty chair,” and refused to engage it directly. But he did issue a challenge to Akin, saying he has “open invitation” to come on his show.

“If you don’t keep your promise to be on the show, then you are what we would call in Britain, ‘a gutless little twerp,’” Morgan said.

Akin has yet to join the chair.

'Oogieloves' Poised to Make the Wrong Kind of Box-Office History

A new movie for toddlers, “Oogieloves in The Big Balloon Adventure,” is making the wrong kind of box-office history.

The movie opened Wednesday at 1,500 theaters and brought in $60,000 total. That’s a sippy-cup-sized $40 per screen for the independently distributed G-rated cartoon.

It has a shot at recording one of the worst wide-opening weekends ever. Last year’s “Creature” set the standard when it averaged $217 on 1,507 screens. “Oogieloves” is scheduled to be on 2,160 screens for the weekend, but theater owners who’ve seen Wednesday’s numbers may want to reconsider.

“Oogieloves” is the brainchild of first-time filmmaker and marketing whiz Kenn Viselmann, who helped bring “The Teletubbies” and “Thomas the Tank Engine” to American TV.

He convened a fancy party at the Cinema-Con convention for theater owners in Las Vegas in April, promising a major roll-out and predicting a wave of word-of-mouth adoption by parents eager for movies to appeal to the kindergarten crowd.

In Los Angeles, billboards have sprung up all over town featuring the big, bizarre-looking and intensely colored puppet kids.The big-eyed creatures were on a front page wrap-around ad in Wednesday’s L.A. Times, too. Even the web site TMZ.com ran wallpaper ads.

The movie follows Goobie, Zoozie and Toofie, who live in Lovelyloveville in a house with a talking window. When their birthday balloons blow away, they go to find them and encounter some crazy grown-ups who … well, you get the idea.

There are some generally fun folks involved: Toni Braxton voices Rosalie Rosebud, Christopher Lloyd is Lero Sombrero, Cary Elwes is Bobby Wobbly, Chazz Palminteri is Marvin Milkshake and Cloris Leachman plays Dotty Rounder.

If this sounds like it could make you want to stand up and scream at the screen, that’s part of the plan – if you’re between two and five years old. Viselmann says the movie is intended to be “interactive” for young viewers, who are prompted to sing, dance and cheer at the same time the Oogieloves do.

The idea, according to Viselmann, is to take the soda-fueled energy of the toddlers and channel it into a more positive movie-going experience than the yelling and running often found at family films.

Viselmann has said in interviews that he got the idea after watching audience members yell at the screen while they were watching Tyler Perry’s “Madea Goes to Jail” and recalling friends’ accounts of shouting along with the “Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

Charlize Theron Circling Feature About Slain Reporter Marie Colvin

Charlize Theron is in talks to produce and possibly star in a feature film about the slain war reporter Marie Colvin, a rep for Theron told TheWrap on Thursday.

Thunder Road’s Peter Lawson and Basil Iwanyk are producing, having optioned the rights to the Vanity Fair article, “Marie Colvin’s Private War,” written by Marie Brenner.

Colvin was the American reporter who died covering the civil war in Syria last February for the U.K.’s Sunday Times. She was known for her compassionate coverage of war victims and reported from several conflict zones including Chechnya, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, where she lost her left eye in 2001.

The project is currently out to writers.

Holly Madison is Expecting First Child!

The former Holly’s World and The Girls Next Door star is leaving the reality TV world and Vegas lifestyle behind, as her dreams of becoming a mother have finally come true.

Holly Madison, 32, is expexting her first child in March with boyfriend Pasquale Rotella.

“Holly and I are so excited to announce that we are going to be parents,” Rotella tells People. “We’re in love and counting down the days until we meet our beautiful baby. I can hardly believe how lucky I am.”

Holly says she’s been lucky, too, adding that it’s been an easy pregnancy so far.

“I’ve been lucky! No morning sickness, but I do get a little nauseous,” Holly added. “It happens before my show, so I keep ginger ale backstage.”

Earlier this summer, Madison declined her contract renewal with the Las Vegas burlesque revue Peepshow, telling People that she was hoping to get pregnant soon. “I’ve wanted kids and that’s something I’m definitely doing as soon as possible,” she revealed. “Definitely being with the right guy has a lot to do with it. My relationship is awesome. I’m happier than I’ve ever been in my personal life.”

Kennedy And Sexton Join DBSA Honorary Advisory Board

Close to the beginning of 2012, the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) announced the members of its new honorary advisory board, a panel of well-known names who’ve dealt with depression, bipolar disorder, or some other type of mental health issue in their lives.

At the time, members included Patty Duke, Marya Hornbacher, Kay Redfield Jamison, PhD, Andrew Solomon, Greg Montgomery, and Jessie Close.

Now, the DBSA has announced two new members!

First up is Linda Gray Sexton, who has authored several books (including memoirs, non-fiction, and fiction) and is the daughter of late Pulitzer-Prize winning poet, Anne Sexton. Linda has battled depression, bipolar disorder and suicidal thoughts.

Next is Congressman Patrick Kennedy, the author and lead sponsor of the Mental Health Parity & Addiction Equity Act of 2008 and, of course, a member of America’s own royal family, the Kennedys. Most recently Kennedy co-founded One Mind for Research, a national coalition seeking new treatments and cures for neurologic and psychiatric diseases of the brain.

Congratulations to both worthy members!

Zac Efron to Star in Rom-Com 'Are We Officially Dating?'

Zac Efron has signed on to star in the romantic comedy “Are We Officially Dating?” for Treehouse Pictures.

Tom Gormican will direct the film from his own screenplay about three friends in New York City who make a pact to remain single just as they each start to fall in love. The film will start production this fall in New York.

Treehouse Pictures’ Justin Nappi and Kevin Turen are producing the film with Scott Aversano and Andrew O’Connor. QED International is handling international sales.

“We strongly believe in the global appeal of this project and we’re excited to work with the team at Treehouse Pictures to bring it to market in Toronto,” QED International CEO Bill Block said in a statement.

The film is the latest addition to QED’s growing sales slate as it heads into the fall markets. At Toronto and AFM, QED will be handling international sales for a number of upcoming films, including “Haunt,” written by Andrew Barrer and directed by Mac Carter; “Ten” directed by David Ayer and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger; and “Fading Gigolo,” directed by John Turturro and starring Turturro and Woody Allen.

Treehouse Pictures’ “At Any Price,” starring Dennis Quaid and Zac Efron and directed by Ramin Bahrani, is premiering at the 2012 Venice International Film Festival and has been acquired by Sony Pictures Classics. Treehouse Pictures is a film finance and production company with offices in Los Angeles and New York.

Todd Larsen, Former Dow Jones President, Expected to Join Time Inc. to Lead News, Sports

Todd Larsen, the former president of Dow Jones, will reportedly join Time Inc. to head its news and sports brands.

Larsen, who served as the publisher of the Wall Street Journal, MarketWatch, AllThingsD and other Dow Jones properties from January 2010 to June 2012, will fill the vacancy at the magazine company, AdAge reported Friday.

He fills a position left open since February, 2011, when former news group chief Jack Griffin was ousted. Mark Ford currently heads the sports group and will now report to Larsen.

He left the News Corp.-owned company after nearly 13 years when Rupert Murdoch hired Lex Fenwick to fill the CEO slot left open when Les Hinton resigned amid the phone-hacking scandal at some of the media giant’s British tabloids.

Three Time spokespeople did not respond to calls from TheWrap for comment.

Larsen will likely oversee the news and sports groups of Time, which publishes its namesake magazine Time, People, Fortune, Sports Illustrated, Entertainment Weekly, Essence and InStyle. The two groups became separate operations in December 2010, a decision made by Griffin.

Now, Time must find a publisher.

Time CEO Laura Lang has been searching for a new publisher for the magazine group since the former publisher Kim Kelleher left in July to head the blog network Say Media.
