Beyoncé, who instructed girls to run the world with her VMA-nominated smash song, will now run the stage at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.
The “Run the World (Girls)” singer, who has three nominations this year (including Best Female Video, Best Choreography and Best Cinematography) and is the previous recipient of nine Moonmen, including 2009’s Video of the Year award for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),” will join the lineup of 2011 VMA performers, which already includes Lady Gaga, Adele, Bruno Mars, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Young the Giant, Pitbull and Ne-Yo. Jessie J will serve as a house artist for the ceremony.
“We are thrilled to have Beyoncé return to her rightful musical home at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards,” said Amy Doyle, executive producer of the 2011 MTV VMAs and MTV’s EVP of Music & Talent, in a statement. “Her performances at the VMAs are legendary — leaving everyone breathless and talking for days. We can’t wait to see her set the stage on fire once again!”
While it’s been two years since the pop diva extraordinaire last hit the stage as a VMA performer (when she, along with a bevy of backup dancers, brought down the house with a “Single Ladies” number), Beyoncé recently played a series of intimate shows at New York’s Roseland Ballroom, performing songs off of her latest album, 4, as well as classic hits, including favorites from the Destiny’s Child era, to sold-out crowds.
The VMAs will air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday at 9 p.m. (live ET/ tape-delayed PT). Presenters includes Selena Gomez (who will pull double duty as VMA pre-show host), Taylor Lautner, Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, Zoe Saldana, Seth Rogen, Drake, Joe Jonas, Jared Leto, Jonah Hill, Will Ferrell, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Victoria Justice, Rick Ross, Odd Future and JB Smoove.
Though voting is closed for Beyoncé’s categories, fans can still vote for Best New Artist by visiting VMA.MTV.com online or m.mtv.com on their mobile phones. In addition, Best New Artist text voting is open to all wireless carrier subscribers by texting BNA to 66333. Voting continues all the way through the show, until the winner is announced live on Sunday.
The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. See the list of nominees, revisit last year’s highlights and vote for Best New Artist by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

Lady Gaga is ruling the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards nominees list.
Mother Monster, who nabbed six EMA nominations, is followed by Katy Perry and Bruno Mars with four noms; Adele, Justin Bieber and Thirty Seconds to Mars are each up for three.
Gaga is up for Best Female, Best Live Act, Best Pop Act, Best Song and Best Video for “Born This Way.” She scored the sixth nom in the Biggest Fans category, an honor she’ll share with her Little Monsters if she wins.
American and Canadian audiences can vote for the North American nominee for the Worldwide Act award, who will represent the continent at the EMAs against contenders from across the globe.
So, who will go head-to-head with the superstar? Adele’s unstoppable “Rolling in the Deep,” Bruno Mars’ “Grenade,” Jennifer Lopez’s “On the Floor” (featuring Pitbull) and Katy Perry’s “Firework” will go up against Gaga for Best Song.
For Best Pop, Britney Spears, Bieber, Perry, Rihanna and Gaga are set to face off, while Adele, Beyoncé, J.Lo, Katy and Gaga also made the final cut for Best Female.
Battling it out in the Best Male category are Bruno Mars, David Guetta, Bieber, Kanye West and Eminem, who’s also up for Best Hip Hop alongside Lil Wayne, Jay-Z and Kanye West (a.k.a. the Throne), Pitbull and Snoop Dogg.
Coldplay, the Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, Kings of Leon and Red Hot Chili Peppers are up for Best Rock. And the night’s big prize, Best Video, features the most eclectic mix of nominees: Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” the Beastie Boys’ “Make Some Noise,” Beyoncé’s “Run the World (Girls),” Justice’s “Civilization” and Gaga’s “Born This Way.”
On Monday morning (September 19), Bieber reacted to the nods on Twitter, writing, “Just got word that we got 3 MTV EMA Nominations for Best Male, Best Pop, Biggest Fans!! THANKS SO MUCH! LEt’s VOTE!!!”
Well, those fans better take note. Beliebers voting in the Biggest Fans category will face off against his girlfriend Selena Gomez’s followers, Thirty Second to Mars’ devotees, Paramore’s biggest admirers and, of course, Lady Gaga’s Monsters.
The MTV Europe Music Awards air live on November 6 from Belfast, Ireland. For a complete list of nominees and to vote for your favorite artists, check out the MTV EMA website. Stick with MTV News as we roll out more information on performers and presenters.

However, Christina will not have more mini-starlets in the making any time soon. “Not right now!” she laughs.

Mother Monster attended an Obama fundraiser over the weekend at home of Facebook COO.

Lady Gaga is not one to make a promise to her Little Monsters and not keep it. That explains why she raised her hand and asked President Obama a question about bullying at a Silicon Valley fundraising event for the Commander in Chief over the weekend at the home of Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg.
The $38,500-per-couple event for around 70 guests took place under a tent in Sandberg’s yard and, according to ABC News, it’s where Gaga made good on a Twitter vow she’d posted last Wednesday in reaction to the suicide of bullied teen Jamey Rodemeyer. Gaga — who turned heads in a black dress with a dramatically plunging back, extremely high heels, a blond upswept hairdo and a black veil covering the back of her hair — brought up the issue during the Q&A segment of the event.
Though a transcript of the exchange is not available, according to reports, she first thanked Obama for what he’s done so far on the subject — which includes a forum held earlier this year about bullying and an “It Gets Better” video — and then read from what she described as a letter from a fan about the suicide of another Little Monster who had been bullied.
After congratulating the president on all of the things he’s accomplished so far in his first term, Gaga made what was described as a “general plea” to everyone in the room, including the president, to do what they can to prevent bullying. Obama then reportedly thanked her, re-iterated his administration’s anti-bullying work and spoke in general about the importance of values.
Gaga also reportedly had a bit of face time with Obama before dinner, when she walked through the photo line with her manager and spoke to the president for two minutes in a room full of other guests. The singer dedicated her song “Hair” to Rodemeyer at Saturday’s iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas, speaking out in support of the gay teen who committed suicide last week after enduring years of bullying by his school peers.
Just days after the 14-year-old’s death, Gaga was so shaken that she called on Obama to enact laws that would make bullying a hate crime. “The past days I’ve spent reflecting, crying, and yelling,” she tweeted on Wednesday. “I have so much anger. It is hard to feel love when cruelty takes someone’s life.” She went further, posting Rodemeyer’s “It Gets Better” video, and insisting that bullying “must become illegal. It is a hate crime.”
It was then that she revealed she planned to meet with Obama to discuss the matter.

All the cool rappers are doing it. From Dr. Dre to Ludacris to 50 Cent and now Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA, A-list hip-hop stars are cashing in on the headphone craze. Teaming up with street-clothing brand WeSC, the Wu producer will be launching Chambers by RZA in the fall. MTV News sat down with the RZArector last week while he was out in Berlin for the Bread & Butter Supershow and discussed his latest endeavor.
The producer/rapper is known for his discerning ear, intricate beats and expert mixes, so fans should expect the headsets to be on point, sonically. “I wanted to make one that was going to be cool, dope, that’s going to be fly to wear, as well sound good, as well as practical in use, and that’s when we came with Chambers by RZA,” he explained.
Functionality was key, so there are quite a few features that the RZA says set his headphones apart from others on the market. One unique feature, in particular, is the battery-powered noise-canceling function. “I wanted to make sure that when the noise-cancellation batteries run out, the headphones still work. I hate when the batteries run out and the headphones don’t work,” RZA said. “What’s the use of paying a couple hundred bucks for headphones that’s dependent on $5 batteries? It don’t make sense. So these headphones, when the batteries run out, you still can use it as a regular headphone.”
Another key feature is the headphones’ ability to link to other ear buds, allowing multiple people to listen to the same device simultaneously. “We made ours as to now you can plug right in; you can connect headphone-to-headphone-to-headphone,” he said. “You and your girlfriend could be chillin’ on the train maybe, she can have her iPod, and guess what? You’re both hearing the same song, enjoying each other’s company.”
The Chambers by RZA also light up while the music is playing, creating a kind of light show. And in addition to the flashing lights, the Shaolin representative wanted to make his line fashionable, even taking into account his Wu-Tang bandmates during the design process.
“I wear Timberlands, black Timberlands a lot, right? So I needed an all-black pair of headphones,” he said. “Raekwon, he likes wearing Air Force 1s — him and Method Man wear Air Force 1s. Almost every Wu-Tang Show, [Rae] got on a pair of Nikes, so I thought about headphones that would match his Nikes.”
Combining functionality with fashion is what RZA hopes will make his line of headphones stand out from the competition. “That’s what I think it should be; it’s a fashion statement,” he added. “It’s not only something that’s useful — because they gotta be useful, of course — but to be useful and cool, you can’t beat that.”
Would you buy Chambers by RZA headphones? Let us know in the comments

It’s been a summer of devastating flooding in the Midwest and northeast and two bands are doing their part to help victims of the storms clean up. Officials said on Wednesday (September 7) that the Black Eyed Peas raised at least $1.3 million to help flood recovery efforts in the North Dakota town of Minot with a concert Saturday at the North Dakota State Fair Grandstand.
According to the Associated Press, the group drew nearly 16,000 fans to the show, which featured an appearance from actor and Minot native Josh Duhamel, who is married to BEP singer Fergie. Nearly one-fourth of the city’s residents were evacuated earlier this summer when the Souris River flooded the town.
Meanwhile, jam band godheads Phish plan to perform their first show in their home state of Vermont since 2004 in order to help victims of Tropical Storm Irene. The show will take place on September 14 at the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction, with tickets going on sale on Saturday.
The group, which formed in Vermont 28 years ago, said in a statement that the devastation in the region from the storm had a profound effect on them. “It’s been heartbreaking to see all the loss and destruction that came from the storm,” said Phish keyboardist Page McConnell. “Vermont is very much a part of who we are as a band. We’re really looking forward to playing this show and we hope the money raised will make a difference in the recovery and rebuilding effort.”
Tickets will be $75, and proceeds from the show and merchandise sales will go to the band’s WaterWheel Foundation and the Vermont Community Foundation to aid in recovery from the flooding caused by the storm.
